I can't believe that I'm going to defend Anton Nosik here, because in so many ways he's not the greatest thing since peanut butter, but he doesn't hate you and is not out to squash you to death, spit on your broken body and rob your corpse. He doesn't understand internet culture, you say? Dude, he's one of the pioneers. I've been hearing his name since the early nineties back when he was a cowboy and doing some truly shady things. He's a controversial figure and always has been. Of course he's rude. And maybe not even likeable. Does he want to make a buck? Sure. He always has. And this is not exactly a horrible thing on his side of the globe. There might be a bit of a cultural disconnect here.
But to call him a fascist and KGB? No. Don't. This is a man who's very much for political freedom, that's against what he perceives to be injustice. He's a liberal that passionately believes in the freedom of speech and that Russia is for all Russians. This is why SUP wanted him to be a corporate officer, not only for his internet rep, but to balance out Mamut and *his* ties to the administration. He's a guy that, when he went to Israel with the Russian door slamming on his butt, he re-entered the country, illegally, to say, "You know what? I'm Russian too. This is my country." He's had guns literally pointed at his head. Say what you want about him, but he's got some brass.
He's seen some good friends die for their beliefs, silenced. He's stood up to the police. He's defended the right of people he finds personally repugnant to speak and be heard. And if he sells ad space to do that? He couldn't care less that anyone's crying about it. He probably finds it annoying and he sure is going to tell us to grow up, experience real hardship, and then go talk to him. He is not a polite man. Arrogant? Oh yeah. Fascist? No.
So, er, I just thought I'd say that.
