So I guess Jughead's never coming out...of high school.

Apparently, Anne Rice isn't the only one who doesn't like other people in her sandbox.

Don't ask me why, but I decided to look up Archie. You know Archie Andrews from Riverdale? Betty and Veronica? Jughead? Hey, you gotta know them. Appararently Archie Publications is quick with the cease and desist:

Archie Comics sued music duo The Veronicas for trademark infringement in 2005 over the band's name, which was taken from the comic book character. Archie Comics and Sire Records (The Veronicas' record company) have resolved their problems [1]

Fanfiction.Net received a cease and desist order from Archie Comics to remove any Archie comic based fan fiction from its site, as they are derived from their copyrighted and trademarked properties and damage Archie's public image. It included public statements by Archie Comics, who have stated that they do not allow fan fiction based on Archie comics works. [citation needed]

On April 4, 2003, Dad's Garage Theatre in Atlanta was scheduled to debut a new play, Archie's Weird Fantasy, which depicted Riverdale's most famous resident coming out of the closet and moving to New York. The day before the play was scheduled to open, Archie Comics issued a cease and desist order, threatening litigation if the play proceeded as written. Dad's Garage artistic director Sean Daniels said, "The play was to depict Archie and his pals from Riverdale growing up, coming out and facing censorship. Archie Comics thought if Archie was portrayed as being gay, that would dilute and tarnish his image." [2]

I'm not sure how the publishing house felt about Cherry Poptart, the independent and very adult comic featuring a Betty lookalike and other Riverdale type people. Maybe Cherry can be construed as an X-rated parody and therefore protected? Dunno.

I don't know why Archie Publications would complain about Teh Gay when they publish gems such as this inadvertent Jughead/Reggie piece called True Love, I kid you not. Scroll down, you'll find it. *g* Thank you for existing, scans_daily!

Well, there goes my WWII era Archie/Jughead post high school angst piece. Not that I was thinking about that or anything. *cough*
